If there’s not enough room for a new widget, you can tap to remove a widget and make room for a new one. Touch and hold the Lock Screen until the Customize button appears at the bottom of the screen, then tap Customize. If you choose a photo for your Lock Screen, you can reposition the photo, change the photo style, and more. For some wallpaper choices, you can swipe left or right to try different color filters, patterns, and fonts that complement each other. If the Customize button doesn’t appear, touch and hold the Lock Screen again, then enter your passcode.
Step 1. Add AssistiveTouch Icon
Remove the bracket covering the front panel sensor assembly connector. Bend the connector cable up slightly to prevent it from accidentally making contact with the socket and providing power to the phone during your repair. Tap this to be taken back to the Home screen, or double-tap it to open the recently opened apps picker, just like on a hardware Home button. Tap one of the wallpaper options to select it as your Lock Screen. Touch and hold the Lock Screen until the Customize button appears at the bottom of the screen. You can create more than one Lock Screen and switch between them. Since each Lock Screen can be linked to a Focus, you can switch your Focus by switching to a different Lock Screen.
Step 2. Turn AssistiveTouch Icon into Virtual Home Button
The AssistiveTouch feature on iPhone allows you to perform a wide variety of actions, without the need to use buttons or gestures. If the switch shows orange, it means your iPhone is in silent mode and will vibrate for incoming calls or alerts. When in silent mode, the alarms you set in the Clock app will still sound, and calls from Favorite contacts will still ring. Apple eliminated the Home button to accommodate larger screens without having to increase the size of the iPhone. Since there are multiple ways to access the Home screen, Apple decided that a physical button was superfluous.
You can add widgets to your Lock Screen to get information at a glance—for example, the temperature, battery level, or upcoming calendar events. Once you have enabled the AssistiveTouch menu, a small button will appear along your device’s screen edge. You can tap and drag it to move it along the edge wherever you want. When you tap it, the AssistiveTouch menu will appear over your Home screen. Already you can see how it is useful it is if your Home button is inoperable. How to add a virtual home button to your iPhone's screen with AssistiveTouch
You may want to get a virtual home button on-screen on your iPhone, as recent models have done away with the physical button. Heating the area around the home/Touch ID sensor will help soften the adhesive holding its delicate cable in place, making it easier to remove safely. Pry under the left edge of the home button cable connector to disconnect it from its socket. Use the tip of a spudger or a fingernail to disconnect the front panel sensor assembly connector from its socket.
Open the iPhone by swinging the display up from the left side, like the back cover of a book. Don't insert the pick very far, or you may damage the display cables along this side of the iPhone. Insert it only a few millimeters, or about the width of the display bezel.
Tip 2. Calibrate Home Button
By linking a Focus to your Lock Screen, your Focus settings apply when you use that Lock Screen. Tap the box below the time to add widgets to your Lock Screen. From now on, a single tap on the AssistiveTouch Icon will take you back to Home Screen, just like pressing the physical Home button. On iPhone X and later, and on iPhone SE , press and hold the side button and one of the volume buttons to restart your iPhone. On iPhone SE , 8, 7, or 6, press and hold the side button. On iPhone SE and earlier, press and hold the top button.
During reassembly, pause here if you wish to replace the adhesive around the edges of the display. To re-attach press connectors like this one, press down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other side. If the connector is even slightly misaligned, the connector can bend, causing permanent damage. Use the tip of a spudger or a fingernail to disconnect the large lower display connector by prying it straight up from its socket. Use the point of a spudger to pry the battery connector up from its socket on the logic board. Don't try to fully separate the display yet, as several fragile ribbon cables still connect it to the iPhone's logic board.
Lean the display against something to keep it propped up while you're working on the phone. Slide the display assembly slightly down to disengage the clips holding it to the rear case. Slide an opening pick underneath the display along the top edge of the phone to loosen the last of the adhesive. Be sure the suction cup does not overlap with the home button, as this will prevent a seal from forming between the suction cup and front glass. Heating the lower edge of the iPhone will help soften the adhesive securing the display, making it easier to open. We have aguide to using an iPhone with no Home button here.
